Febrina: The Gift of Christmas

Jesus is so real! When I think about Christmas, I think about how Jesus has changed my family and me.

In the Christmas story, there are many visions and dreams. Mary had a vision about the birth of Jesus, God gave Joseph dream about taking Mary as his wife, and God also warned Joseph of danger through a dream. My Grandmother also had dream that changed her life and my life.

So, one day in the afternoon back in my hometown in Indonesia, my grandmother was crying really hard until she became tired and fell asleep and she dreamt. In her dream, a boy came to her and asked her why she was crying. She said she was crying because my grandfather (her husband) was very sick. The boy asked if she knew a person name Jesus. And the boy then told her a story of Jesus and told her to go to church to find Jesus.

My grandmother told her oldest son, my father about the dream. She thought my father would know this person name Jesus because my father has the highest education level compare to the rest of her 10 children. So, my father knew an English teacher at school who goes to church. That English teacher is eventually a wife of the pastor. So my father started to attend church and read the bible. He then prayed to Jesus and said “Jesus if you are the truth, if the bible is the truth, if what you did in the Bible is truly your power. I asked you to heal my father like you did in the bible. And if you do so, I will believe in you and I will give my life to you”

My grandfather had a stomach cancer. When the family found out about the cancer, it was already stage 4. Doctors predicted that he only have about 3 months of survival rate. My grandmother was very devastated and hopeless about the whole situation of her having 10 children and having a very sick husband. She worshiped and prayed to her idols a lot. She then came to realize that her idols could not do anything to save my grandfather’s life or change her situation. She decided to break them and throws those idols away. That is why she cried really hard as she felt hopeless. The cancer was so bad that my grandfather could not eat, lost weight, and became so skinny.

A little while after my dad started praying, my grandfather started to get better, he was able to eat and gain a little more weight. He went back to the doctors and those same doctors could not find any explanation to what happened. But all we know he was healed and lived another 20 more years. As a result, my father and many others in the family saw that Jesus is so real and decided to follow Jesus.

The gift of life that Jesus gave to my father’s family continued to be given to my mother and my mom’s mother. My mom’s mother, my grandmother, was paralyzed by a brain tumor. She was healed and able to walk again. She and the nurse who took care of her came to follow Jesus. My mother got an ovarian cyst. She called out to Jesus and was healed as well. It happened after she gave birth to my younger brother after me. Doctor said she could never give birth anymore, yet she gave birth to 2 more brothers of mine. I learned that in every single gift of healing was given because my father, my grandmother, and my mother call upon Jesus name. God kept bringing life to my family to show us that Jesus is real and He want us to trust and follow Him.

The Gift of Healing is good. But more than that, the gift tells me about the giver. And for me Jesus is the ultimate Giver. I strongly believe that no one else could do the things he did to my family, except Him. Because He is the real Creator and only our creator has the power over our body and our life.  When people asked me how I came to believe in Jesus. I thought, why would I not? He has given more than enough favors and evidence of His greatness and power for my family and me to see Him and experience him personally. He is just so real!

So Christmas is very meaningful to me as a remembrance that God gave Jesus to bring a new and everlasting life not only to my family and me but also to all of us. I am working now with Bridges International (Cru) in Austin, Texas.

More than anything else, Jesus loves us and He knows us personally and wants to have that personal relationship with us. Jesus is the most precious and priceless gift everyone could ever receive. And I want to share this gift with everyone.
